Markle’s Musical Miracle

Nina Markle is the Executive Director of Middletown Performing Arts Academy and a retired music teacher from Middletown, Ohio. Her love for kids and music has inspired her to reach out to low income children. She requested a $3000.00 grant to purchase a Yamaha LC2 Plus piano lab in which a group of 8 can study piano at the same time with an instructor.

Nina’s dream of opening a Performing Arts Academy came true this month as the Academy just opened its doors in a space provided by a local church. The Academy hopes to host 100 students a week from all different age ranges and they will be grouped by age and skill.

Nina feels that she was blessed with a talent that is meant to be shared and she expressed how music helps with the development of the mind and within itself can help children be better equipped for the future.

Nina we wish you the best with your remarkable Academy.

Howard Ain Warns of Sub-Contractor Scams

In the wake of the biggest blackout that the area has seen a lot of clean up has started. Cutting up trees and cleaning up other debris has been a diversion from the stress of being without power. Now that the Duke Energy crews have more than doubled electric is being restored all over. Getting every body up and running could still take a few days.

Clean up could be difficult for some but people in communities are reaching out to help one another. Howard Ain warns of “sub-contractor” scams. These are people claiming to be independent clean up crews and offer to help those who need help with the debris. He says to watch out for those asking for money up front, they could take your deposit and you won’t hear from them again. He urges to go with local businesses or if you choose to use a contractor, check them out with the BBB and ask for a written estimate up front. In the words of Howard Ain, ”Don’t waste your money.”

September 11th A Day We Will Never Forget

I remember it like it was yesterday, I was in the bedroom putting on my make-up for work and my husband calls for me to come to the television. I watched in awe as the news crew scrambled to piece together the events leading to the first burning twin tower. I sat in disbelief frozen to my television grasping reality as I viewed what looked like something out of a blockbuster movie. Before I could wrap my head around it… live, in front of me, a plane comes into view. I remember thinking that it must be a news plane and that the plane was going to fly around the second tower, but when it went through the building and fire spilled out of the explosions my heart fell and sank deep into my soul, we were under attack and I found myself lost in prayer.

This year marked the 7th anniversary of the attacks and Butler County police, fire and emergency officials gathered Thursday, Sept. 11, to honor the memory of the thousands of people who died that day in the terrorist’s attacks. While more than 30 area residents gathered later that evening in front of the Fallen Firefighters Memorial on Monument Avenue for a service organized by the Butler County Fire Chiefs Association; the fear hangs in the air that those people who died and that day will fade into a distant memory and forgotten.

I for one will never forget September 11th 2001 and the distinct feelings of fear and devastation of that day. I worked for an international distributor at the time and I knew with the airports locked down, my presence at work was non-negotiable. All I wanted to do was get my daughter from school and be with my family and pray. The face of America changed that day and the memory of thousands of people ring in the hearts of Americans every year. No... we won't forget
