Former Middletown Councilman Paul Nenni Runs for State Office

Earlier this week long time Middletown CPA, Paul Nenni, announced his intention to seek election as a State Legislator.

Nenni will be running for the position of Ohio State Representative of the 53rd District.

Nenni, a lifetime resident and business owner from Middletown, has served his country as a Marine in Vietnam and spent two terms on the Middletown City Council. Nenni is also a Certified Public Accountant, a Registered Financial Consultant and owner of Nenni & Company on University Blvd.

Our current Representative, whom Nenni seeks to replace, is Shawn Webster from Hamilton.

Middfest International Presents – The Diary of Anne Frank

Middfest International, now in their 26th year of educating the Midwest “one country at a time”, will be featuring The Netherlands this year in their weekend clebration held in Middletown Ohio.

As no serious look at The Netherlands would be complete with out the inclusion of the Ann Frank story, Middfest and director/producer Christine Brunner, will be presenting a professionally staged production of The Diary of Anne Frank.



The production will run through mid October and features an accompanying study guide to educate the audience on the history of the period. Also after each show the cast and crew will make themselves available for a discussion period with the audience.

The Middfest Netherlands event itself will be held October 5th, 6th & 7th at One Donham Plaza in downtown Middletown.

Verity Statue Moves To MUM

In 1901, George M. Verity relocated his business headquarters of ARMCO from Cincinnati to Middletown due to the request of the local community. Since then ARMCO, also known as AK Steel, has been part of the city of Middletown until this year.

AK Steel has since moved their headquarters to West Chester, and in doing this, abandoned the statue of George M. Verity. The decision to move the headquarters has raised the question, "What is to become of Verity Statue?".

The decision has been made to move the statue from its current location, former AK Steel's headquarters, to the new location of Miami University of Middletown. "Everyone is thrilled with the move, ARMCO retires, the Verity family, because of the new location, the statue will be seen by more people." said Alan McCoy, AK Steel Spokesperson.

The inscription on Verity Statue reads:
"ARMCO Spirit is a comprehensive vital force which finds expression in the practical application of policies builded on a platform of christian principles in which selfish purpose has no place." by George M. Verity who moved ARMCO Steel to Middletown in 1901.

Mighty Middies Who Went On To Greatness

Middletown, Ohio has been and continues to be a home to some of the most competitive sports teams and athletic individuals the state has ever seen, and on a couple rare occasions among the best in the world.

Middletown can boast claim to basketball legend Jerry Lucas, called by some the greatest high school basketball player of all time. Cris Carter, much acclaimed vikings wide receiver and now host of HBO's Inside the NFL, and his older brother Butch who went from playing basketball in the NBA to coming home and coaching for our very own high school. Todd Bell, Gay Brewer, Howard Jones and Charlie Root, all Middletown Middies who went on to become great names in sports history.

The legacy of Middletown Middies in the world of professional sports is not yet over though, and even as we can remember and take pride in the amazing athletes that have come from our past, we look forward to the great athletes that are still waiting to make their mark in professional sports. Maybe the source of our greatest pride hasn't emerged yet, or maybe he's currently on the path.

Bullwinkle's Top Hat Bistro Comes To Middletown

Bullwinkle’s Top Hat Bistro of Miamisburg will soon be opening a new store in the east end of Middletown on Culbertson road.

Bullwinkle's has been located in Miamisburg since 1986 and is well know to Middletown residents for great food and great atmosphere.

With the continued growth of the east end and the coming move of Middletown Hospital to the east side it's a certainty that Bullwinkle's will not want for potential customers.

The Butler Boys - A Middletown Civil War Story

While writing this short story about the 35th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment from Butler County, that served during the Civil War, something very obvious occurred to me. Something that was true a hundred years ago and is still true today. Something that gives us as Middletown residents another memory in our collective past to be proud of. That being that great countries are made by great men and great men are made by great ideals and great sacrifice. The 35th Ohio by their service and sacrifice to preserve the Union are examples of that truth. They are examples that we should never forget.
